Yet another strong performance from Joe in the little Micra. We join the action back in Wales on the Island of Anglesey.
The rally started on a very cold, wet and windy welsh morning, with the plan being to run 8 stages on Saturday and 8 on Sunday.
Stage 1 brought a cautious start for Joe in the Micra. A barrel-rolling Clio caused the stage to be cancelled however, focusing attention on stage 2.
Joe and Lewis set the fourth fastest time, a position which would set the pace for the rest of day 1 infact. Joe said “I was being careful not to take too many risks after the last round. We had a wide moment on stage 5 but that was about it."
Stage 7 brought with it the winter darkness and with heavy rain reflecting in the headlights the pair set a respectable time despite poor visibility. Stage 8 was cancelled due to time restraints at the venue.
With the results for the two days being classed as separate events for the F1000 runners, Joe and Lewis brought the Micra back home in 4th at the end of day 1.
After a good night’s sleep, Sunday brought a promising start. Stage 9 saw the pair set second fastest time, with 3 seconds separating the top 3 crews. Joe set a fastest stage time on Stage 2 and the top 3 runners spent the rest of the day swapping times.
After a couple of mistakes, including an over-shoot at a hairpin on Stage 11, Joe reached the flying finish needing to take 2 seconds out of David Arden ahead in order to clinch second place. It wasn’t to be however as both crews set identical times on the final stage of the rally. After yet another strong finish 2009 looks promising for Joe.
