Joe starts his season off in style with 3rd on the Roskirk Stages

Joe arrived in Wigan for the Roskirk Stages Rally with another well known F1000 name on the notes. David Arden, who drove himself in the series in 2008 had agreed to stand in for Joe on the first round.

A wet start to the rally saw tyres playing a crucial role in the tactics. Just as the crew had opted for tyres suited to a drying track on stage 2, the heavens opened, making for a very tricky stage and some sideways action in the little Nissan.

Despite the conditions, Joe and David were joint second after stage 2 with David’s Uncle Ian Arden. The two teams were just 2 seconds behind local favourite Steve Johnson at this point.

Stages 3 and 4 were again wet, a spin half way through Stage 3 costing the pair vital seconds. Stage 5 looked promising with Joe catching and overtaking fellow F1000 challenger Alwyn Frazer at the chicane. The advantage was handed back to the Welsh driver on the following stage however when Joe overshot a hairpin.

As the weather deteriorated throughout the remaining day’s stages, Joe’s confidence built up and the slippy conditions seemed to suit him and the Micra perfectly. Another top 3 time on slippery Stage 9 saw the pair bring the car home in third, an impressive 23^rd overall in the rally.

Joe’s modesty could be perhaps read as frustration, “I’m pleased with the result, but the mistakes definitely cost us a higher finish. A good start to the season though.”

Unusually for Mr “keep it flat” Taylor, the Micra doesn’t need any major repairs, and he is now on the search for a codriver to compete alongside him for the next round, and perhaps the whole season. Interested? Get in touch via the contact page.
