Mini Cooper S Mk3 1971

A Leyland built car, this is one of the last real Cooper S Minis, and despite an impressive spec, the car remains faithful to its roots.

Dave’s Mini Cooper S is an original ‘S’ with the twin fuel tanks and other delights associated with the fast Minis of the 60s and 70s.

Fully sprint prepared, the car boasts a 1293 race engine, twin 1.5 SU carbs and rose jointed, adjustable suspension. The Mini is also fitted with a rear cage and Corbeau seats, along with a host of period accessories.

The car is kept immaculate and its motorsport work is kept to the odd weekend on smooth hillclimb and sprint tracks, along with historic road rallies. The Cooper S was one of Dave’s childhood pin-ups, so going by that, next on the list might be a Ginetta or Lotus Elan!

With a history of hillclimbing and rallying, and experience of a range of iconic performance cars from Mk1 Escorts and Mk1/2 Cortinas through to Minis and Saab 96s he is one of the original members of Teamwoodspeed.
